4. How do bedbugs get into buildings and how do you know if they are in a building?

Bedbugs are hitchhikers. They can easily travel around the world in luggage and on clothing. Once they are introduced into a facility, they can spread quickly from one unit or space to another.

As to knowing if they are present or not, unfortunately, most facilities don’t know a problem exists until someone complains. Hotels can take a proactive approach by training their housekeeping staff on what to look for, examining mattresses on a regular basis looking for blood droplets left behind by these pests. In an office facility, a similarly close inspection of upholstered furniture might also detect them.
