In this course we will cover OSHA requirements, Blood Borne Pathogen issues and protection, cleaning techniques, marketing and dealing with the emotional issues experiences by the customer. What can the customer expect from a quality restoration firm in dealing with Trauma and Bio-Hazard losses? Understanding the unique losses that are classified as Trauma and Bio-Hazard cleaning is the first step in understanding how to respond to the customers' needs. Hoarding: An Extreme Claim Situation (Hosted by CRDN)

Compulsive hoarding (or pathological collecting) is considered a clinical syndrome that affects an estimated three million Americans. The actual number is believed to be much higher due to the difficulty that those who experience this condition have in asking for help. Clearly there’s a potential impact for insurance professionals. When property loss occurs in a home of a hoarder, it may result in an extreme claim that needs to be managed carefully. In this two-hour interactive class, we will focus on understanding what hoarding is and the different levels of hoarding. We will look at liability concerns of insuring hoarders and learn how to identify a hoarding situation before the carrier agrees to insure the property. Students will develop the necessary skills to identify when and to what degree hoarding is occurring, and learn how to work with a hoarder during the claim process. At the conclusion, we will outline suggested hoarding protocols that, if implemented by all restoration providers and claims professionals, will result in controlling and/or lowering restoration costs.

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, students should be able to: Understand what hoarding is and recognize the various levels of hoarding

Comprehend liability concerns of insured hoarders Successfully manage a hoarding claim to lower and control restoration costs
